In an All Things Considered segment, Co-Chair of the Title IX and Campus Discipline practice Patricia Hamill was interviewed by NPR’s Tovia Smith regarding President Biden’s initiative to rollback Trump administration rules that fortify the rights of students accused in sexual assault and harassment cases, a move that’s being responded to with cheers and fears.
“Students, rightly so, are concerned that there will be a rollback back to an era with no live hearing,” says Patricia, “no ability to probe the person’s narrative.”
She comments on the fact that students expelled for serious misconduct accusations have lifelong consequences, such as the inability to finish school or find employment.
